How do I report a claim?
For contact information click here.
What information do I need to report my claim?
Be prepared to give the name of the insured, policy number, date of the loss, what caused the loss, your contact information and the severity of your loss.
I don't have all the information needed to report my claim. What should I do?
Contact your Alfa agency anyway. By immediately contacting your local Alfa agency, our agents and CSRs will be able to help you start the claims process, or help you better understand or obtain the required information.
How does the claim process work?
Once the claim is taken by the agent, it is assigned to an Alfa adjuster in your area. The adjuster will visit you to assess your damages and write an estimate or ask you to provide an estimate. If the adjuster is able to write the estimate, you may receive a draft right then. If not, Alfa will mail you a bank draft. The bank draft may be made out to you and your contractor or to you and your mortgage company.
What can I do to make the claims process easier?
Gather as much information as possible, report your loss as soon as possible, make temporary repairs, and contact repair agencies and ask them for repair estimates.
How long will it take to settle my claim?
The length of time it takes to settle a claim
varies according to the severity of the loss and
the number of losses Alfa receives. Every effort
will be made to inspect your loss as soon as possible
and to resolve the claim within a reasonable time
frame.
I reported a claim for the first time
to the 1-800 number during the weekend and have
not heard anything from the adjuster yet. What
should I do?
An Alfa adjuster will contact you as soon as
possible regarding your claim. If you have not
heard back from an adjuster within a reasonable
time period, please call your local Alfa office.
Do not call the 1-800 claim reporting number again,
as that number is for first time claim reporting
only and operators will not be able to provide
a status on a previously reported claim.
If property was stolen, what do I need to do?
File a police report immediately for the theft. For insurance purposes, it is beneficial to provide any photographs you may have of the item(s) and provide the proof of purchase or receipt, serial number, ID number or model number of the item(s).
What is a deductible?
A deductible is the amount of the loss which you are responsible for paying before benefits from Alfa Insurance are payable.
I can't live in my home. Will Alfa pay for temporary living arrangements?
Yes, if your policy provides Loss of Use/Additional Living Expense coverage. Also, the reason you can’t live in your home must be covered under your policy and your home must be untenable. Check with your Alfa agent to make sure your policy provides this coverage and to better understand the provisions and limits of this coverage.
If I have to relocate, what records should I keep?
You should keep receipts on all your expenditures related to your loss of use such as hotel and restaurant receipts.
Should I make temporary repairs to my home?
It is advisable to make any temporary repairs that will prevent additional damage to your home. This includes covering broken windows and holes in the roof.
Is flood insurance covered under my policy?
In general, flood insurance is not covered under dwelling policies; however, it may be covered under your automobile policy if you have comprehensive coverage on your automobile. Flood insurance for homes is administered through the National Flood Insurance Program. Ask your Alfa agent for more information.
How will I receive the money?
If the adjuster is able to write the estimate, you may receive a draft immediately from the adjuster. If not, Alfa will mail you a bank draft. The bank draft may be made out to you and your contractor or to you and your mortgage company.
Whom can I call if I have a question about my claim?
If you have any questions regarding your claim or any repairs, please contact your Alfa agent or the adjuster handling your claim.
