Alfa® Newsroom

Caring for Our Community

At Alfa Insurance, we work to provide our customers with a full line of products to meet all their insurance needs. Often, providing for our clients means more than just selling insurance – it means going the extra mile to support the communities where they live and work.

Alfa® personnel work daily to support charities, promote education and back area organizations with the goal of making our communities better.

Below are some of the organizations we work with on a regular basis:

United Way – Alfa is the largest contributor to the River Region United Way, providing hundreds of thousands of dollars each year through employee and corporate donations. The United Way helps members of our community by providing services to people with disabilities, abused and neglected children, senior citizens and countless others. Monetary donations are just the beginning of Alfa's work with the United Way.

Family Sunshine Center - During the holidays, employees donate gifts, wrapping paper and other items to the Family Sunshine Center that, in turn, distributes the donations to abused children and adults who otherwise would not be able to celebrate the season.

Christmas Clearing House - The Iron Bowl is a major event in Alabama. Each year, Alfa holds a one-day Auburn/Alabama fundraiser, where employees can dress down if they donate money in honor of their favorite team. Proceeds benefit the Christmas Clearing House.

Goodwill Industries - The Goodwill truck visits the Home Office throughout the year and collects clothing and household items from employees.

Relay For Life - Alfa's award-winning team raises money each year to help the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer. In past years, Alfa's team has been the top fundraiser in Montgomery County.

Montgomery Food Bank - Food drives are held throughout the year for employees to bring non-perishable food items. The food is collected and delivered to the Montgomery Food Bank.

American Red Cross - According to the American Red Cross, it only takes one blood donation to save three lives. Alfa sponsors two blood drives for the Red Cross each year and donates money for local disaster relief funds throughout Alabama.

Alfa also proudly supports its employees who serve on boards at: United Way, Family Violence Center, Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries, National Kidney Foundation, St. Margaret’s Foundation, Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center, Alabama Baptist Foundation, Children Center, Hospice of Montgomery, American Red Cross, People Against a Littered State (PALS), the Arthritis Foundation, Adullam House and the Montgomery Area Down Syndrome Outreach Group.

Alabama Teacher of the Year Program - Alfa Insurance and the Alabama Farmers Federation honor Alabama's top teacher each year with a new car (along with  the insurance on that car) to drive for a year as he/she travels the state promoting education. The program is a collaborative effort with the Alabama State Department of Education.

Partners in Education - Helping school children succeed is important to Alfa, and it shows. Many of Alfa's employees participate in the program and use their lunch break one day a week during the school year to tutor area school children.

Wayne Hawkins Memorial Scholarship – Since 2007, Alfa has offered dependents of Alfa Insurance agents, CSRs and district managers scholarships that can be used to cover a portion of college tuition for one year. Recipients are selected based on academic accomplishment and/or financial necessity and must be either high school seniors or currently enrolled in college. Since the program’s inception in 2006, more than $16,000 has been awarded to deserving students. The scholarship was named in honor of Wayne Hawkins, former executive vice president of Alfa’s Marketing Department.

Alfa Foundation Scholarship – Established in 2014, the Alfa Foundation awards 50 scholarships valued at $1,000 each to deserving students to use for tuition at any college, university or technical school in Alabama. The program is open to high school seniors and post-secondary undergraduates. Scholarships will be awarded based academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in community and school activities, along with work experience and a statement of goals and aspirations. Membership in the Alabama Farmers Federation is required to qualify.

Bryant-Jordan Sponsor - Named for former University of Alabama Coach Paul W. "Bear" Bryant and Auburn University Coach Ralph "Shug" Jordan, the Bryant-Jordan Scholarship Foundation promotes athletic and physical fitness by awarding scholarships to deserving students. Alfa also supports education through monetary donations to the state's colleges and universities.

Corporate Donations

Rural Medical Scholars Scholarship Program - Through a generous donation of $1.8 million, Alfa helped recruit and train doctors to serve and improve the health of Alabama’s rural communities. The program was founded in 1996 by Dr. John Wheat at the UA College of Community Health Sciences. Up to 10 qualified students are chosen each year as Rural Medical Scholars, a highly selective pre-med and medical school program based on high academic achievement, character and leadership qualities.

Alabama Shakespeare Festival Donor - Known throughout the Southeast for its Shakespeare and Broadway productions, the festival provides educational resources to everyone from school-age children to adults and contributes millions of dollars each year to the state's economy. In 2004, Alfa provided $1 million to continue the nationally acclaimed school matinee program, Schoolfest. The funding kept the ASF program intact for more than 25,000 Alabama schoolchildren in the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons.

Other major corporate donations were given to: Alabama 4H, American Village in Montevallo, Alabama FFA, Alabama PALS Clean Campus program, Camp ASCCA, Children’s Harbor and Rainbow Omega.
