BIRMINGHAM (August 7, 2017) – The Alabama Farmers Federation selected Children’s of Alabama as the beneficiary of a fundraiser in conjunction with its annual Commodity Producers Conference held in Birmingham on Aug. 3-5. Alfa donated $120,000 to Children’s, which will directly help the hospital to provide the best care possible for ill and injured children in Alabama.
“The fact that Children’s has touched so many lives across Alabama was the purpose behind each and every gift that was made to this campaign,” said Emily Hornak, Director, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Cause Marketing and Corporate Partnerships at Children’s. “Alfa proved that when members, employees and leadership are given a call to action to help Children’s of Alabama – they responded in a very impressive way!”
Alfa Insurance employees at the home office in Montgomery collected more than $21,000 in their fundraising efforts. Employees were encouraged to share uplifting stories of their experiences with Children's of Alabama through Alfa's social media channels. County Farmers Federations also stepped up and donated more than $71,000.
To add a fun element, the Federation's Area Organization Directors (AOD), who represent different counties in the state, were pitted against one another to see who could raise the most funds for Children’s. AOD David Heflin won the Welcome Wagon for Kids contest by raising $16,558 from farmers in his area, which includes Autauga, Butler, Chilton, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes and Montgomery counties.
Donations were also collected during conference registration and at the Alabama Farm Expo on Saturday. The fundraiser culminated with the Welcome Wagon for Kids during the conference, attended by over 900 farmers from across the state. The Alfa Foundation also chipped in a contribution to reach a grand total donation of $120,000 to Children’s.
