Alfa Insurance Is First Stop On "Success Starts Here" Tour

Alfa Insurance President Jimmy Parnell talks about upgrading technology systems within the company, an investment of over $100 million.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (December 20, 2016) - An investment of over $100 million to overhaul and update technology made Alfa Insurance the first stop on the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Success Starts Here” tour today.

Alfa Insurance President Jimmy Parnell said the technology upgrade will replace about 90 percent of computer systems within the company and prepare Alfa for the future.

“We’ve spent a total of 1.1 million man hours over three years building this new system, which was rolled out four weeks ago in four service centers across Alfa’s core states,” Parnell said. “It’s been a big deal, and we’re proud of it. We’re building the whole thing and rolling it out in pieces.”

Along with over 2,400 Alfa employees, the project has required work from about 250 outside contractors.

“They fly in Monday and fly out at the end of the week,” Parnell said. “I feel like we’ve made a significant impact on the economy around here with the airport and hotels.”

Parnell was joined by senior Alfa leadership at the home office on East South Boulevard as he addressed the tour crowd of elected officials, community business leaders and local media. Alfa’s home office sits in Montgomery County Commission Chairman Elton Dean’s district.

“We can’t ask for a better company than Alfa, not just in District 2 of the County Commission, but in the city of Montgomery and the state,” Dean said. “You had opportunities to move where you wanted to move, but I appreciate you staying in this community. Alfa always does the right thing the right way.”

Mayor Todd Strange said Parnell’s leadership has helped improve Montgomery, particularly in an area where the city and county are investing heavily in redevelopment.

“[Alfa] does, in fact, anchor this part of Montgomery,” Strange said. “Certainly with over $100 million [invested in the project], that’s a lot of use tax coming into our revenue stream.”

The seventh annual “Success Starts Here” tour recognized current businesses and industries which have expanded or made significant investments over the past year.

Other stops were Baptist Health, where $17 million in investments and 270 new jobs were announced, and Jackson Hospital, where $6.65 million in investments and 50 new jobs were announced.
