A tropical storm warning is in effect for most Alabama counties east of Interstate 65, along with the majority of Georgia counties. The greatest weather threat in these areas are sustained winds between 30 and 45 miles an hour, with gusts up to 55 miles an hour. The National Weather Service expects rainfall totals between three and five inches.

The rest of Alabama is under a wind advisory, with sustained winds expected around 20 to 35 miles and hour and gusts up to 45 miles an hour. New rainfall totals are forecast between one and three inches.

Alfa policyholders are encouraged to make temporary repairs to property to prevent additional damage. Retain receipts from purchases related to temporary repairs to include with any claims.

Disaster victims are prime targets for criminals, as insurance scams nationwide account for $30 billion in losses annually. Policyholders should be wary of unsolicited or unexpected offers to perform repairs or conduct inspections. Contact your state attorney general’s office with reports of suspected fraud, looting or price gouging. For tips on avoiding frauds or scams and storm preparation, visit Alfa's Severe Storm Center.
