MONTGOMERY, Alabama (October 2, 2017) – With pink pom-poms shaking and music blaring, Alfa Insurance and Alabama Farmers Federation employees enthusiastically pledged support to find a cure for cancer during the #AlfaCares Kickoff pep rally at the home office Oct. 2.

Alfa President Jimmy Parnell was greeted with cheers as he announced a $25,000 donation from the Alfa Foundation to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS).

“We’re here to celebrate cancer survivors and caregivers and to show our commitment for finding a cure,” Parnell said. “Cancer is something that’s personal for all of us, and I think that’s why this annual campaign is always such a success. It gives us all a chance to be a part in the fight against this disease.”

ACS representative Julia Meyers said she has been overwhelmed by Alfa’s support, which has resulted in almost $323,000 donated to ACS since the campaign started in 2015.

“Money donated goes toward lots of great projects, including $8 million worth of research currently underway in Alabama,” Meyers said. “It also goes to our wonderful patient programs including those that help women feel better about themselves. I really believe the reason Alfa folks are so passionate is because this is so personal to every single one of you and you’re really invested in the fight.”

The $25,000 donation presented today is just the beginning of the month-long #AlfaCares About A Cure Campaign to benefit ACS. Donations will be collected throughout October at the home office, online at and at more than 350 Alfa service centers in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

During the kickoff event, Alfa employees and Alabama Christian Academy cheerleaders pepped up the crowd with lively cheers. Cancer survivors and caregivers took the spotlight at the end of the pep rally as they broke through a banner and participated in “Pinking Out” the Alfa fountain.
