Alfa Responds To Damage From Yesterday's Severe Weather

Montgomery, Ala. (March 19, 2013) - Alfa Insurance® is mobilizing resources to handle claims from storms affecting northern and central Alabama and Mississippi Monday. Alfa® claims adjusters are helping customers in affected areas, and Alfa offices are open.

To file claims for home or property damage from the storms, contact a local Alfa service center or call 1-800-964-2532. Claims may be filed online at or through the Alfa2Go app for iPhone and Android smartphones.

Survey teams with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Alabama are assessing damages in Marshall, DeKalb and Etowah counties. Spokesmen with the NWS in Birmingham and Huntsville said this was a widespread weather event with virtually every county in their coverage areas reporting wind or hail damage. The NWS in Jackson, Miss., received numerous reports of baseball-sized hail.

Alfa Insurance is sending a mobile response unit (MRU) to the Alfa Service Center in Clinton, Miss. at 380 Highway 80 East. The 38-foot-long MRU is a fully functional Alfa office, even during power outages, and uses the latest satellite technology to process claims quickly.

Policyholders are encouraged to make temporary repairs to their property to prevent additional damage. Retain receipts from purchases related to the temporary repairs to include with any claims.

Victims of disaster are prime targets for criminals, as insurance scams account for $30 billion in losses annually in the U.S. Policyholders should be wary of unsolicited or unexpected offers to perform repairs or conduct inspections. Contact the Alabama Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection at 1-800-392-5658 with any reports of suspected fraud, looting or price-gauging.
