Montgomery, Ala. (Apr. 3, 2017) - A line of severe thunderstorms is moving across south Alabama this morning, with the potential to produce damaging winds. Alabama forecasters are concerned Wednesday could bring a second round of severe weather.

Today’s severe weather threat should be over by late afternoon. Emergency responders and forecasters have received numerous reports of downed trees and power outages.

For Wednesday, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued an outlook which has all of Alabama in at least a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms. The majority of the state is in a slight risk with the southeastern corner in an enhanced risk, the third-highest threat category.

Alfa policyholders who incur storm damage are encouraged to make temporary repairs to their property to prevent additional damage. Retain receipts from purchases related to temporary repairs to include with any claims.

Be aware and make sure to only do business with reputable companies. Victims of disaster are prime targets for criminals, as insurance scams account for $30 billion in losses annually. Policyholders should be wary of unsolicited or unexpected offers to perform repairs or conduct inspections. Contact the Alabama Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection at 1-800-392-5658 with any reports of suspected fraud, looting or price gouging.
