Hemmings Named Chief Fianacial Officer for Alfa Insurance
Montgomery, Ala., May 19, 2017 — Alfa Insurance® President Jimmy Parnell has announced the promotion of John Hemmings to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective May 19. Hemmings will continue to serve as a senior vice president and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) — a position he’s held since 2011.
“I am pleased to announce the centralization of Alfa’s financial functions under John Hemmings in his new position as CFO,” Parnell said. “He has played a vital role in charting a course for greater profitability since joining the Alfa family and will do well providing coordinated leadership to the company’s talented Investment and Finance Department staff.”
Parnell said he was confident the company’s financial portfolio would excel under Hemmings’ direction.
“John is a visionary leader who anticipates changes within the insurance and financial sector and seeks to position Alfa for future success,” he said. “As CIO, he upgraded the company’s portfolio management systems, diversified corporate holdings and established informed strategies for the purchase and sale of assets. These initiatives have allowed Alfa to better respond to changing economic news, including our ability to outperform the leading market indices. I look forward to seeing what else he’ll accomplish in his new role.”
Hemmings joined Alfa in 1999 as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager and was promoted to Vice President of Investments in 2006. Prior to joining Alfa, Hemmings worked with Wachovia Securities in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a vice president and fixed income strategist.
“I’m extremely excited for this opportunity to work with the many talented people in the Alfa organization, and lead our Investment and Finance teams,” Hemmings said. “Together, we will provide financial insight to aid and enhance management’s decisions and strategies to deliver long-term growth and profitability.”
Hemmings is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics. He later received a master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University. He has served on the board of directors for Goodwill Industries and Easter Seals of Central Alabama.
