Bodily injury & property damage

If you're involved in a bodily injury or property damage suit, our personal umbrella policy will pay the costs of the investigation, defense and settlement of a covered claim, up to the policy limits, if your other insurance has been exhausted. And if you lose earnings complying with our requests during defense proceedings, we will pay up to $250 a day ($5,000 maximum) for this loss.

Examples:

  • You hit a water skier who is down in the water
  • Your teenage daughter runs a stop sign, causing a serious accident
  • A salesperson trips on a crack in your sidewalk
  • A neighbor's child drowns in your swimming pool while you're on vacation
  • Your son at college accidentally injures someone in an innocent fraternity prank

All of these are examples of claims that may have damages beyond your primary policy’s liability limits.

*This is not an insurance policy. It is intended only to provide a general description of Alfa Insurance and/or its product lines and services. An actual policy contains the specific details of the coverages, conditions and exclusions. All coverages are subject to deductibles and policy limits. Your Alfa® agent can explain the policy and benefits and answer any questions you may have before you buy.

Personal Umbrella FAQs

An umbrella policy provides extended liability, but it will not cover criminal acts or damage to your own property and possessions. And if you’re a business owner, you’re going to need separate commercial umbrella policy.

You, as the policy holder, will be covered on a personal umbrella policy, as well as those who live in your household. This may include your spouse and dependents who live under your roof.

All the hard work you’ve put in to build a life for yourself could be gone with one huge claim. Protecting yourself with the proper amount of umbrella insurance is important. Your personal umbrella limits should be enough to carry your net worth, including any potential future net worth you may be able to quantify. Your agent can help you determine how much you should carry.
