Claims FAQs

How do I report a claim?

You can file a claim online or by or contacting us.

What information do I need to report my claim?

Be prepared to give the name of the insured, policy number, date of the loss, what caused the loss, your contact information, the severity of your loss and any witnesses.

I don't have all the information needed to report my claim. What should I do?

Go ahead and contact Alfa® immediately. By immediately contacting us, we will be able to help you start the claims process.

How does the claim process work?

Once the claim is received by Alfa, it is assigned to an Alfa adjuster in your area. The adjuster will contact you to assess your damages and write an estimate or ask you to provide an estimate. Alfa issues drafts for claim payments. The draft may be payable to you and a vendor or your mortgage/lienholder company.

What can I do to make the claims process easier?

Gather as much information as possible, report your loss as soon as possible, make temporary repairs, and contact vendors and ask them for estimates.

How long will it take to settle my claim?

The length of time it takes to settle a claim varies according to the severity of the loss and the number of losses Alfa receives. Every effort will be made to inspect your loss as soon as possible and to resolve the claim within a reasonable time frame.

I reported a claim for the first time to the 1-800 number during the weekend and have not heard anything from the adjuster yet. What should I do?

An Alfa adjuster will contact you as soon as possible regarding your claim. If you have not heard back from an adjuster within a reasonable time period, please call your local Alfa office. You may also call the Alfa customer service number at 1-800-964-2532, option 3.

If property was stolen, what do I need to do?

File a police report immediately for the theft. For insurance purposes, it is beneficial to provide any photographs you may have of the item(s) and provide the proof of purchase or receipt, serial number, ID number or model number of the item(s).

What is a deductible?

A deductible is the amount stated in your policy declaration that we will subtract from the amount we pay on a covered loss.

I can't live in my home. Will Alfa pay for temporary living arrangements?

If your property is deemed uninhabitable due to a covered loss, you may be entitled to additional living or housing expense. The adjuster assigned to your loss will verify your policy coverages.

If I have to relocate, what records should I keep?

If this coverage is applicable to your loss, please keep copies of all your expenditures such as hotel and restaurant receipts.

Should I make temporary repairs to my home?

It is advisable to make any temporary repairs that will prevent additional damage to your home. This includes covering broken windows and holes in the roof.

Is flood insurance covered under my policy?

In general, flood insurance is not covered under dwelling policies; however, it may be covered under your automobile policy if you have comprehensive coverage on your automobile. Flood insurance for homes is administered through the National Flood Insurance Program. Contact your Alfa agent for more information.

How will I receive payment?

If the adjuster is able to write the estimate, you may receive a draft immediately from the adjuster. The draft may be made out to you and your vendor or to you and your mortgage/lienholder company. There are other payment options also available to you, including EFT. In emergency situations, you may also receive a prepaid debit card to assist with immediate expenses such as meals or lodging.

Whom can I call if I have a question about my claim?

If you have any questions regarding your claim or any repairs, please contact the adjuster handling your claim.
