  • Drowning due to flooding
  • Collapsed buildings
  • Electrocution generated by artificial electrical current

Liability

Provides coverage for the property of others or bodily injury caused to others that you are legally liable for if it occurs on your property or as a result of your farm operation. Liability may cover medical payments to others, first aid expenses, claim expenses and damage to the property of others.

Example: A friend is visiting your property. A farm employee drives the tractor into his or her vehicle parked in your driveway. Liability coverage would pay for the repairs to the friend's vehicle.

Equipment Breakdown for Farms

This policy enhancement option provides affordable protection to help with the cost of repairing or replacing your farm equipment due to covered mechanical or electrical breakdown.

Example: The GPS system in the cab of your tractor stops working due to an electrical malfunction. Equipment breakdown coverage would help cover the cost of repairing the GPS system.

Replacement Cost Loss Settlement for Dwelling

Protect the physical structure of your home with coverage that takes care of the full cost of repairs or replacements without a deduction for the depreciation.

Example: You have storm damage to your roof. The cost to replace the roof is $10,000 and your policy carries a $1,000 deductible. Your roof has a depreciation of 20%. With this premium, your policy would cover $9,000 ($10,000 - $1,000 deductible).

Replacement Cost Loss Settlement for Personal Property

Similar to a replacement cost loss settlement for dwelling, an endorsement can cover the cost of repairs or the replacement of your personal belongings.

Example: A kitchen fire starts on your 8-year-old stove, resulting in you having to replace it. Replacing it with a new stove — same brand and model costs $2,000. The depreciation of your stove is 15% ($300). With the endorsement, the policy would pay $1,000 ($2,000 – 1,000 deductible)

Special Causes of Loss for Scheduled and Unscheduled Farm Personal Property

Some perils exclude your policy limits, considering it as “all risk” and are not covered. Add this coverage for what your policy excludes.

Example: During heavy rain, you remember leaving your tractor by a pond on the property. The water level rises, the field floods and damages your tractor. Your standard policy alone would not cover the damages.

Machinery Schedule

A machinery schedule allows you to list all the equipment being used in your farming operations.

Example: You damaged your tractor while using your skid steer attachment, but your policy only covers your tractor. Add this coverage to your policy to add your skid steer attachment and other equipment under your standard policy.

Example: Your home A/C system won’t start due to a mechanical issue. Home systems protection can help cover the cost of repairs.

Increased Medical Payments for Farm Employees

Your farm employees need protection too. Add this coverage to your policy to cover potential medical expenses for your farm employee’s injury that occurred on your covered property. This endorsement is not workers' compensation coverage and does not take the place of workers' compensation coverage.

Example: One of your employees slipped and fell in the barn and needs medical attention. This coverage will cover your employee’s emergency visit up to the applicable policy limit.

The Alfa Farmowner Policy covers many types of farming operations you may engage in. Inform your agent, and he or she will inspect your operation and help you decide what coverages are best suited for your needs.

Yes. Alfa offers deductible amounts up to $25,000. It is possible to significantly reduce your premiums by taking a higher deductible on your policy.

When you experience a loss in your poultry house operation, contact your Alfa service center, call 1-800-964-2532 or file a claim online at alfainsurance.com. The loss settlement portion of your Farmowner Policy can be settled two ways. A qualifying poultry house can be endorsed to cover losses on a replacement cost basis, which will settle your loss without any deduction for physical depreciation (up to the limits of your policy). Without the replacement cost coverage endorsement, losses are paid on an actual cash value basis. Actual cash value is calculated as the amount it would cost to repair or replace covered property at the time of loss or damage with material of like kind or quality subject to a deduction for depreciation.
