Various loss settlement options are available, including actual cash value, replacement cost, or additional replacement cost.
Your policy provides you with two types of coverage options. They are: named perils coverage (i.e. fire, lightning, wind, hail, explosion, smoke, vehicles, aircraft, vandalism and malicious mischief, and riot and civil commotion), and accidental direct physical loss except as excluded.
Dwelling, other private structures appurtenant to the dwelling and personal property
In addition to the named perils, your home and household personal property are also insured against loss resulting from: theft, glass breakage, falling objects, weight of ice, sleet and snow, accidental leakage or overflow of water or stream, and freezing of heating and air conditioning systems and domestic appliances.
Additional living expenses are also provided should your home be rendered uninhabitable by a covered loss. This coverage is automatic for up to 30 percent of the dwelling value.
Through endorsements and an additional premium, you may add or increase coverage for: replacement cost for dwelling and/or contents, jewelry, furs, musical instruments, sports equipment, cameras and computer equipment.
Additional coverages for your dwelling and household personal property include debris removal, fire department charges and emergency removal of trees, shrubs and other plants, emergency removal of property, temporary repairs, power interruption, refrigerated products, arson award, sinkhole collapse, volcanic action, grave markers and collapse of dwelling.
Farm personal property
Farm Personal Property can be covered on your policy on either a scheduled or unscheduled basis. Your Farm Personal Property is insured on a named perils basis with additional perils for livestock. Farm machinery can be endorsed to cover accidental direct physical loss. In addition to the named perils, livestock is also covered for the following perils:
- Drowning as a result of flood (livestock in excess of 30 days old)
- Collapse of buildings
- Electrocution generated by artificial electrical current
- Accidental shooting by someone other than the insured
If you insure animals, animal collision and in-transit is now automatically covered and peak season coverage may be added through an endorsement.
Alfa's all-in-one Farmowner Policy protects you against claims for bodily injury and property damage due to farming accidents plus these additional coverage: medical payments to others, first aid expenses, claim expenses and damage to the property of others. Alfa also has Personal Injury and Advertising Injury coverage, previously not covered without endorsement. This coverage includes slander, libel, wrongful eviction, malicious prosecution, misappropriation of advertising ideas and copyright infringement. An endorsement is available for farmers who lease land to others for hunting.
Coverage is available to protect your farm outbuildings against named perils as previously listed as well as the perils of: falling objects, glass breakage and the weight of ice, sleet or snow.
Additional coverages for farm buildings and structures include: debris removal, fire department charge, emergency removal of property, necessary repairs after loss and new construction of farm buildings.
For an additional premium, you may add coverage for poultry house replacement cost and loss of income. Loss of income is also available for swine/dairy.
