Umbrella Coverages

Sometimes, your liability coverage on your home, auto, watercraft or other items is not enough when there is a judgement against you in a lawsuit. Luckily, an umbrella policy can give you the protection you need. It’s extra protection for the unexpected.

Personal Umbrella

Bodily Injury & Property Damage

When you are involved in a lawsuit, our personal umbrella policy may handle the remaining costs once your standard policy has been exhausted. Plus, we will pay up to $250 a day ($5,000 maximum) if you lose earnings complying with our requests during defense proceedings.

Examples:

  • Your teenage daughter runs a stop sign, causing serious injuries
  • A neighbor's child drowns in your swimming pool while you are on vacation
  • Your watercraft hits another boat, causing property damage and injuries to the occupants

All of these are examples of claims that may have damages beyond your primary policy’s liability limits.

This is not an insurance policy. It is intended only to provide a general description of Alfa Insurance and/or its product lines and services. An actual policy contains the specific details of the coverages, conditions and exclusions. All coverages are subject to deductibles and policy limits. Your Alfa® agent can explain the policy and benefits and answer any questions you may have before you buy.

  • A vehicle runs into farm equipment on the road, causing injury to the occupants
  • Your child loses control of their vehicle and runs into a neighbor’s barn, causing extensive damage
  • A visitor slips on the floor of your kitchen, causing long-term physical limitations

All of these are examples of claims that may have damages beyond your primary policy’s liability limits.

Attorney fees and court costs can get quite expensive if you get sued. A commercial umbrella policy provides additional liability coverage beyond your commercial insurance policy when you require higher liability limits for protecting your business. Protect your dreams with a commercial umbrella policy.

Examples:

  • A customer sues because of their injury after falling in your store
  • A customer gets food poisoning after eating at your restaurant
  • A shelf falls on a customer, causing injuries

All of these are examples of claims that may have damages beyond your primary policy’s liability limits.

Umbrella FAQs

An umbrella policy provides extended liability, but it will not cover criminal acts or damage to your own property and possessions. And if you’re a business owner, you’re going to need separate commercial umbrella policy.

You, as the policy holder, will be covered on a personal umbrella policy, as well as those who live in your household. This may include your spouse and dependents who live under your roof.

All the hard work you’ve put in to build a life for yourself could be gone with one huge claim. Protecting yourself with the proper amount of umbrella insurance is important. Your personal umbrella limits should be enough to carry your net worth, including any potential future net worth you may be able to quantify. Your agent can help you determine how much you should carry.
