Supporting Safety in Our Communities
Supporting the local community and first responders in Decatur, Alabama was top of mind for Decatur Agents Andrea Brown, Kendra Parker and Jackson Suggs. With the rise of electric vehicles (EV) on the road and new charging stations located in downtown Decatur, the Decatur Fire Department needed EV fire blankets to extinguish fires safely and promptly.
“We have several firefighters in our area who are Alfa customers,” said Brown. “Battalion Chief Bobby Anders called our office one day to see if we’d be interested in helping the City of Decatur Fire and Rescue purchase four blankets (based off the number of stations currently in the area). After he explained how beneficial the blankets would be, our service center decided this was something we wanted to help with.”
Brown said with support from Alfa’s leadership, they were able to provide Anders with a $5,200 donation to purchase the blankets. EV suppressor blankets protect up to 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit and weigh between 80-100 pounds.
Lt. Brandon Sively said the blankets will give the fire department the right tools to combat electric vehicle fires safely.
“It’s a wonderful thing to be able to provide the resources needed to keep our community safe and out of harm’s way,” Brown added. “This donation further validates the company I’ve been proud to work for the past 28 years. We make a promise to take care of policyholders in their time of need, and we keep that promise.”
