Hemmings Named Executive Vice President, Chief Financial and Investment Officer

Alfa Insurance President Jimmy Parnell recently announced the promotion of John Hemmings to Executive Vice President, Chief Financial and Investment Officer, effective June 26. He most recently served as Chief Investment and Financial Officer.
“As Chief Investment and Financial Officer, John has strengthened Alfa Insurance through wise investments, conservative management and diversification,” Parnell said. “Investments have consistently outperformed financial benchmarks, and the respect he’s received in the industry, both on a national and international level, continues to climb. We are very fortunate to have him on the executive management team.”
Parnell said while Hemmings’ expertise is commendable, his leadership style makes him a true asset to the Alfa® family.
“A servant leader, John has built a great team of financial professionals who are committed to ensuring Alfa has the resources to serve our customers well,” he said. “Together, they have strengthened Alfa’s financial investments and implemented strategies that have led to our strong financial record.”
Hemmings joined Alfa in 1999 as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager. He was promoted to Vice President of Investments in 2006 and was named Senior Vice President in 2011. In 2017, he earned the title of Chief Investment and Financial Officer and joined the executive leadership team in 2023 as a direct report to the president of the company.
“Stepping into the Executive Vice President role is both a privilege and a responsibility I embrace with great enthusiasm,” he said. “I’m excited to steer our financial strategy and investment vision in ways that support long-term growth, resilience and innovation. As part of the executive team, I look forward to fostering collaboration across the organization and delivering value that aligns with our mission and future ambitions."
An alumnus of the University of South Carolina and Auburn University, Hemmings serves on the board of directors for Goodwill Industries of Central Alabama. He and wife Carrie have three adult children and one granddaughter.
